Freezer Refinished

Granny's old freezer. We inhertied this freezer a couple of months ago and it's temporary home was on our front porch. Which I know must of drove the neighbors crazy. At any rate, there was a great deal of prep work that needed to be applied to the freezer before we could bring it inside. Mainly we had to scrub off all the nicotine that had built all over as well as sand off the rust that had begun to form in various places. Therefore a massive 'airing out' had to commence. Mari was able to rub off most of the nicotine with a wash rag and a bleach solution. I however neglected to move forward with sanding the rust spots. And when we did get around to sanding we had to sand in a couple of extra places. Before painting and sanding we wanted to make sure the freezer was going to work well and not leak or drip. So we had it on for the last few days this week making sure it would get cold and stay cold and not cause puddles on the porch out front. With all these test passed it was time to sand and paint.

The top had a great deal of rust. However much we sanded those spots came out pitted.

Although, I've done lot's of sanding on wooden furniture this was my first attempt at refinishing a metallic object. The principles were the same, stray or cross grain sanding marks will show up in the final product, over spray will turn your porch white, and you have to sand within all the cracks and crevices. Dad always ran us out when it came time for spraying furniture, though I was able to watch from a distance we weren't allowed to close. I began applying paint to the top of the freezer and worked my way around. Mari has commented on how well it looks and how smooth the paint makes the sides feel. Not commenting on a good spray job, I give all credit to those cans of spray paint!

The next step is to install and new door gasket that has been ordered and another Honey-Do project can be checked off!
Sorry for not taking any 'in between' pictures. You will have to rely on your imagination.
